In their own words:
Twitter is a service for friends, family, and co–workers to communicate and stay connected through the exchange of quick, frequent answers to one simple question: What are you doing?
Twitter sounds boring at first, but trust me, as you start using it, you would know how useful it can be. I stay updated on all the latest news through twitter. All current affairs seem to be updated first on twitter by the various users!
If I ever have doubts about anything, I just tweet the question and wait confidently for someone to answer it almost immediately.
When I started blogging, I had a hard time getting people to know about my blog. Twitter came to my rescue here too (although there were many other sites which helped me too and would soon blog about them as well) . Whenever I write a new post, I post a tweet and people who find it interesting come over to the blog.

To get you started quickly on twitter, here are a few of the things you should know and do:
1. Register: Sign up for twitter with a nice username (preferably your name or the name of your blog)
2. Follow: Start following new people either through the ‘Find People’ opton on your twitter homepage or twitter search (lot of options in ‘Advanced Search’) by searching for words of interest. You can follow me on twitter.
3. Reply: Start interacting with people by replying if you have answers or comments on their tweets using the ‘@’ keyword. Ex. my username is ‘NischalShetty’ so you would reply to me using ‘@NischalShetty’ (without the quotes)
There are a lot of third party applications through which you can use twitter. I would be blogging about these soon.
Till then you go ahead and play around at twitter.
You can follow iSimplyBlog too on twitter. This way, any new posts on iSimplyBlog would land up in your twitter page.
Note: This is part of the twitter series that I’m planning on. Twitter is such a powerful online tool that it commands a separate category full of informative posts about it and I’m going to do just that.
You can stay in sync with all the posts by subscribing here .

In spite of many ppl telling me, I haven’t started it yet. I thought to handle too many accounts would be a problem. Is it something like other blogger communities such as indiblogger, mybloglog etc? I have registered on those sites but hardly use them. I guess the key is to be online as much as possible ? Even on twitter ?

Suggestions.
After someone posts a comment, there is no indication that s/he has to wait till moderation by you & he is totally confused as what has happened. You know even I was.
Kindly put a sentence over there.
Although I read your posts thru reader, I can’t see any recent posts on the blog. We can only see recent comments & that too does not tell us which post they belong to. See, my blogs.. it is who has said on which post.

Ha Ha Ha… just saw the sentence “Your comment is awaiting moderation.”.

@Cuckoo
no..twitter isn’t like those blogging communities. It’s just a place where you can type in whatever you feel like in 140 characters and see what others are typing. You’ll be amazed at wht 140 characters can convey once u are hooked on to twitter
OK, ‘comment awaiting moderation’ indication is there right
Recent posts.. ummm.. in the box where you see ‘recent comments’ there is an option ‘recent articles’. On clicking it the same box displays recent posts
And I have the recent posts widget on the right most sidebar too!
Thank you sooooo much for suggesting these things though… not many take time to write these things. It was nice on your part to do so
